The giant from Redmond Washington has announced that it will be laying off some 3% or over 6,000 employees as it moves to reshuffle its management layer. The announcement comes after a series of layoffs from Microsoft in the past few years. Just as recently as 2023, when it had laid off some 10,000 from its workforce. The core of this layoff seems to stem around its effort to restructure its management departments. Just weeks ago Microsoft’s CFO Amy Hood had hinted at a management restructure. In an email Microsoft stated “We continue to implement organizational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace.” At this time Microsoft’s restructuring project seems to have no correlation to AI.
