The FBI has published a list of 13 outdated Linksys routers that are exploitable. If you have one of these, you’ll want to replace as it may already be compromised. The Linksys routers in question were first released over a decade ago, however, you can still find some still online for sale. The bulletin (PDF) released on May 7th lists the following routers from Linksys in question that are no longer receiving security updates and can be exploited and used for botnet activity. Users on the popular Technology subreddit have pointed out that some of these devices may actually be small business Cisco equipment such as the E100 and E300 as there is little to no information about a Linksys E100. This is during the area of Linksys/Cisco, where the small business devices were branded as Cisco. All of the devices seem to be pretty outdated but we would suspect that there are small businesses and offices still using such outdated devices. Make sure if found that you have them replaced asap. You can report suspected router-based attacks or suspicious activity to your local FBI field office at www.fbi.gov/contact-us/field-offices.
