Often labeled as the world’s poorest president due to his lifestyle, José Mujica, the former president of Uruguay, has passed at the age of 89. The announcement came via X from the current president, Yamandú Orsi, posting “thank you for everything you gave us and for your deep love for your people.”

Although no official mention of how he passed, it has been known that the former president had been suffering with oesophageal cancer.¹
